The story leaves out the part about how gas stations started running out of fuel on Tuesday, before the panic. There is an actual shortage, due to a slowdown on the Colonial Pipeline, which supplies this region. Of course, the resulting sense of panic exacerbated things. But despite what the crack reporters at CNN seem to think, it wasn't just based on "rumors."
Nashville is the only city around without gas. Loonytick is correct, but folks have been hoarding gas, stored incorrectly in glass bottles, milk jugs, etc. This is very dangerous. As of Monday, Sept. 22, 3:37 p.m. CDT, the Exxon station at West End and Murphey Road is still out. http://planettrash.wordpress.com
P.S. As an ex-pat, when you vote for President, how does it count?
Barbara - the last thing I read about ex-pat votes was that our ballots are only counted if there is a run-off. I don't know if that has changed, because there are two new organizations for Democrats and Republicans abroad that apparently got a handful of delegates at the conventions.
It is true, Greeks succumb to gas panic now and then, especially during strikes. Just the Nashville thing (and the resulting video posted on the Nashville Scene site) seemed funny.
And yes, Lulu, Nashville *is* a green and lovely city!

I've been to Nashville just once. To someone from the arid west it seemed a green and lovely city.

You should've seen them lined up around blocks and in turning lanes (a big hit) Dickson and the surrounding towns had plenty of gas.
