My kingdom for mint chocolate candy

My sister-in-law is visiting from Sweden for a couple of weeks, which is really great because I've missed her a lot. She has been a real friend to me ever since I've moved here, and she has that kind of shining, happy personality that makes you feel good. To prove how awesome a sister-in-law she really is, she brought me a collection of chocolate mint candy - After Eight mints and Lindt Intense Mint, along with some weird Swedish brand. She knows I love chocolate mints, and since Greeks - despite their intense, undying love for chocolate - seem to have an aversion for mint chocolate, I can't get it here (and believe me, I've looked). So it is nice that I have a sister-in-law who can supply these goodies for my sweet tooth every time she comes to visit.

I have hope, however, that some day Greeks will catch on to the wonder that is chocolate mint, so I don't have to beg outsiders to bring some every time they visit, and that some day I will once again taste the refreshing flavor of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Have you ever considered buying an ice-cream maker and making your own chocolate chip mint ice cream ? It really isn't that difficult.

Here in Canada there is a plethora of unusual chocolate combinations sprouting up in local confectionary boutiques like: Aztec chocolate (spicy peppery dark chocolate), sea salt caramel chocolate, coriander and lime chocolate, rosemary chocolate, chai tea chocolate, Earl Grey chocolate - just to name a few...Surprisingly, chocolate mint (a classic) is nowhere to be found any more. Seems like poeple's taste buds are yearning for the exotic and untraditional 'adult' flavours.

In case you are curious - have a gander at these sites:

Toomanytribbles - Thanks! Unfortunately we don't have a Lidl near us, but if we ever happen to drive by one, I'm stopping!

Joanne - I am totally buying an ice-cream maker for the new house, just for this purpose (and for the purpose of being able to make ice cream once they stop selling it every September).

Anon - I am not too bad at finding things, I found Dr. Pepper after all! But the two places where I have found mint chocolate before sold out and didn't restock. =(

Oh, for goodness' sake, mint is for toothpaste and chewing gums! C-:=

(Honestly, I cannot stand even the suggestion of mint. Ever since restaurants started carrying those dreadful mint-flavored toothpicks I had to start carrying plain ones in my wallet.)

Now, CHOCOLATE, pure unadulterated CHOCOLATE, that's a different story!

My favorite choc/mint fix = Thin Mints-the Girl Scout cookies. For the last 3 years I haven't known one person with a Girl Scout or Brownie in their family so I had to wait until the little scouts would sell cookies outside of the supermarket. I can eat a whole box!

Mel! I just had to share this with you. I was at my local drugstore chain yesterday and while standing in line to pay I was also browsing the candy and chewing gum selection near the cash counter...well, guess what I saw????
Chocolate - mint chewing gum...yessiree! A very newly released product. The gum is mint with chocolate syrup filling in the centre. I haven't tried it myself as I'm not big on the choc-mint combo, BUT...If you want to give it a whirl let me know and I can mail you a pack of gum.
Unless, of course, this gum is available in Greece, in which case...forgedaboutit :)
