When you smile with every new day

Today, in celebration of the fourth anniversary of our American wedding, my husband and I decided to walk down to the sea and eat at Ruby Tuesday. Of all the American restaurants I'd expect to see overseas I sure never expected to see Ruby Tuesday, of course, we had already enjoyed the Applebee's in Athens, so I guess it wasn't that weird.

It was a fitting celebration, though. The decor, the food, everything was just like it might be at a Ruby Tuesday back home. Especially the prices! I have to say, after a few years of being used to Greek prices, it was a bit of a culture shock to see food that expensive. We probably paid almost twice as much as we would have at a taverna. Still, it was nice to have a big sizzling plate of fajitas for a change.

It is comforting to know that I can still get a little taste of home now and then, without having to resort to McDonald's.

Uh, I have no offers of free porn. However, I admit that when I first arrived in Greece I saw Applebees by the waterfront and thought "Why would I ever go to Applebee's in Greece!?" I mean, I hardly even go to Applebee's in the states. However, after nine months and countless taverna meals, Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday's sound pretty good to me. Mmmm, chicken fajitas, yum.

Lucky you, there aren't any Applebee or Ruby Tuesdays in France, not that I know of. Even though we eat quite well here, I wouldn't mind a taste of home every once in awhile.

Okay, Mel, you almost freaked me out with this bit:

"[W]e had already enjoyed the Applebee's in Athens, so I guess it wasn't that weird."

See it was big news around here when the Applebee's opened last year in Athens ... ALABAMA! For a minute there I thought you'd been dining in my back yard.

It drives my sister mad for her to come to Germany to visit me and then when we go to Berlin or something I want to go to an ordinary American chain restaurant and she gets all "Kiddo, I can eat that crap at home!".

Ahhh...the family battles never change...Heh!

Happy Anniversary! I would love to hear more about your wedding day, and NO PICS? boo hoo! Tanti tanti auguri to you both!

Enjoy Apple Bee's AND Ruby Tuesdays. I think I should move to Greece, I have to resort to McDonald's or Burger King. We do have a Hard Rock Cafe in Rome that tastes just like the ones back home, but it is a looong trip for dinner.

Wishing you many years of happiness!

Emily - no free porn!?? Get offa my blog! Lol. Yea, thats the thing. The idea of Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday seems ludicrous at first, but then when you live here (or are here for a long time) it can be a bit comforting. And Greeks seem to love these places - the Applebee's in Athens was always packed and so was Ruby Tuesday here.

Meredith, that is the thing. Greek food is awesomely delicious and I could very well eat it all the time without having a problem. But it is nice to not only have good ol' American Texmex cooking, but the ambiance of a Ruby Tuesday.

Lol Tracie B. Just don't scold me when I have to go back and get buffalo chicken strips!

St. Caffeine, there is more than one Athens, just so you know. ;)

Dixie, no kidding! I try to keep any American guests away from such places though, because I know they want the Greek food. But when I wanted pizza I made my family eat Pizza Hut.

Thanks Cynthia! No pics, we don't have any way to scan them or anything. You can just come visit us here and we'll take you to both restaurants! But see, you get all the yummy yummy Italian food. And we don't have Burger King here, although I'd prefer an Arby's. Krispy Kreme would be nice too, although bougatsa works pretty well for breakfast sweets.

They just opened up a Hooters at the Mall at Marousi (Athens). The Hooters trainers from all over the USA came and instructed all the Greek Hooterettes in the latest techniques in bending, reaching, and of course, cheesy food.
