Greece is hosting a charity concert for victims of Hurricane Katrina, in Chalandri (outside Athens) on October 15th. Performances by Mario Frangoulis, the children's choir of the American Community Schools of Athens, and the ERT Choir will be sure to delight audiences. According to the press release, they will be performing "New Orleans spiritual and American melodies", which is always an interesting thing when attempted by Greek voices. I would go out of sheer curiosity, if not to give to the cause.
There was a taverna beside our apartment in Litochoro, and they frequently had "Memphis Blues Night". What we heard on those nights were renditions of "50 Ways to Leave your Lover" and "Horse with No Name" sung wildly with Greek accents. Not exactly Memphis Blues.
At any rate, it is a nice event for Greece to be hosting, and will raise some money for Katrina victims. You can't beat that.

Lol, I know. I was laughing my ass off listening to them. And the audience was singing their little fake bluesy hearts out.
